Hammer shaft
The Flakt high voltage hammer shaft mechanism is driven by either
a drive mounted on the side wall (see wall mounted drive page) or a
roof mounted drive (see roof mounted drive page).
The hammer shaft is very similar to the collecting system hammer
shaft. A series of circular headed hammers are orientated
along a shaft. Each successive hammer is at a slightly
different angle to the previous one.
As the shaft is rotated a hammer falls and strikes the anvil bar
attached to the high voltage frame. This impact shakes the
wires in the vicinity of the hammer strike, dislodging any
accumulated dust.
The shaft is supported at intervals by a cast iron bearing blocks.
