Hammer shaft
The Flakt-style
collecting system hammer shaft mechanism is driven by a geared motor
mounted on the outside wall.
The hammer shaft is
very similar to the high voltage system hammer
shaft. A series of circular headed hammers are orientated
along a shaft. Each successive hammer is at a slightly
different angle to the previous one.
As the shaft is rotated a hammer falls and strikes the anvil at the
end of the shock bar. This impact shakes the
plates attached to the shock bar (one "curtain"), dislodging any
accumulated dust which then falls into the hopper below.
The shaft is supported at intervals by a cast iron bearing blocks.
