Tensioning
Bag Tensioning is a Critical Factor in Baghouse Operation!

Improper tensioning is one of the main causes of bag failure in reverse air baghouses. Excessive tensioning causes harmful stress on the fabric yarns and sewing threads and also prohibits movement necessary for dustcake release. A component analysis and necessary replacements should be included in maintenance inspections to avoid untimely failures and equipment damage.

BHA has developed many tensioning assemblies to best fit your application. The assemblies are available in chrome silicon steel for moderately elevated temperatures or 17-7 PH stainless steel for high temperature applications.

The 17-7 PH stainless steel springs benefit from a shotpeening and passivation process which hardens the wire and raises tensile strength as well as cycle life. This process results in extended spring life, which reduces maintenance time required for bag changeout.

Conical Springs
BHA's non-linear conical spring allows the fabric enough movement to clean down, yet controls bag collapse. Unlike a linear spring, which compresses equal amounts for equal pounds of load applied to it, the conical spring becomes harder to compress as heavier loads are applied.

Unlike a linear spring, which compresses equal amounts for equal pounds of load applied to it, the conical spring becomes harder to compress as heavier loads are applied.

BHA tensioning
features conical
spring designs.

In this manner, it acts as a shock absorber, preventing the fabric from total collapse while it is under the reverse air cycle, and also reducing any "popping" effect on the bags when they return to service. BHA's non-linear conical spring is used in the following tensioning assemblies:

AC Tensioning Tool? System

The BHA patented AC Tensioning Tool® System is a precision tensioning device that is used with our I-bolt and double drawbar tensioning assemblies, and provides accurate, consistent bag tension up to four times faster than conventional methods.

Features and Benefits:

  • Reduces maintenance costs by extending bag life.
  • Reduces maintenance hours required for bag installation.
  • Lightweight, making it easy to lift and maneuver.

The AC Tensioning Tool is available in three different models to best fit your application:

  • 150 mm Pneu-Magnum: Features 2:1 ratio- pounds to air.
  • 300 mm: Used primarily for large diameter bags. Features 2:1 ratio- pounds to air.

All AC Tensioning Tools come complete with air hose and carrying case.

The AC Tensioning Tool®
applies accurate tension during
filter bag installation for more
efficient and constant bag tensioning.

TRAP Control System

The TRAP Control System uses a patented self-cleaning torsion spring to solve the most common problems of shaker collectors. In a typical shaker baghouse, bags hang slack to allow for the shaking motion necessary for bag cleaning. Unfortunately, this allows dust to become trapped in the top and bottom of the bag, abrading the bag and reducing the cloth area available for filtration.

The TRAP Control System was designed to reduce bottom bag abrasion of shaker collectors. This easily installed system enables improved airflow and longer bag life, which results in reduced costs for maintenance and parts.

TRAP Control System Features:

  • TRAP high performance filter bag - manufactured in a variety of fabrics for specific needs.
  • TRAP torsion spring - constructed of high strength chrome vanadium, requiring no structural modification during installation.
  • Anti-collapse rings - enhance cleaning of filter bags by preventing bag collapse.

The TRAP Control System
is used to improve poor filter bag
tensioning by utilizing the torsion spring
with high performance strap top bags.

AC Tensioning Tool® System

BHA carries many different hanging assemblies. All assemblies are used in many OEM designs and can be sized and plated for specific applications. All hanging assemblies are available in both carbon and stainless steel and come with nuts and washers needed for installation.

  • The Double-D Strap Hanger is used to support strap top filter bags.
  • The Strap Clip is a hanging assembly commonly used in Mikropul and Fuller baghouse configurations to support filter bags by pulling the bag through a slot and securing it with a clip.
  • The Tubehook is used to hang loop top bags.
