Fabric Selection

Since each baghouse has its own set of characteristics and system parameters, it is important to evaluate each of the following variables in order to choose a fabric best suited to the system:

  • Temperature
  • Moisture level
  • Particulate size
  • Gas stream chemistry
  • Air-to-cloth ratio
  • Particulate abrasiveness
  • Mechanical factors, such as cleaning style, installation, etc.

The following table is a good general reference:

In general, felt filter bags are used in pulse-jet collectors. Woven filter bags are used in reverse air or shaker baghouses.

Specialty Fabrics

BHA has a number of specialty fabrics designed to address specific problems. The following are a few of our fabrics that collect particulate with the dustcake and fabric structure.

(See the BHA-TEX® Membrane and PulsePleat® Filter Elements sections for products that collect particulate on the surface of the filter media and do not require the formation of an initial dustcake.)

Tri-Loft® and Reverse Air Tri-Loft® Fiberglass

BHA developed Tri-Loft® and Reverse Air Tri-loft® with highly texturized bulky yarns on the filtration surface to add surface area, depth, and felt-like density to provide maximum efficiencies, high airflow capabilities, and excellent durability.

These fabrics feature the Blue Max-CRF/70® chemically resistant finish, providing state-of-the-art fiberglass encapsulation that results in superior resistance to acid attack and alkaline conditions. Tri-Loft is widely used in incinerators, coal and waste fired boilers, cement kiln, and carbon black applications.

DimensionTM Felts

The next "dimension" of performance fabric filters, exclusively from BHA. New
technologies in manufacturing provide Dimension
TM with greater fiber population than
traditional fabrics, more surface area, increased strength, and higher filtration efficiencies. Available in Nomex® or polyester media.

Duo-Density Felt

BHA's duo-density felt fabrics for pulse-jet and reverse air dust collectors utilize a blend of finer denier fibers on the filtration surface to provide a tighter surface for filtration without increasing Differential Pressure.

These finer fibers prevent particulate from penetrating the filter media where it may become trapped, providing for greater airflow capabilities and minimal leakage.

These fibers maximize collection efficiency while allowing the bag to clean down properly and regenerate its permeability.

The heavy duty scrim of our duo-density product also provides the dimensional stability to help maintain proper bag tension and cleaning efficiency in structural reverse air baghouses.
